SETTLING IN Every child is an individual and reacts in their own way. Some periods of distress may occur, even after being at the centre for some time - this is quite natural. There are a number of steps you can take to help your child settle in. Spend time with your child before their first visit to get familiar with the environment. Talk to your child about what will be happening and when you will be back. Always try to remain positive even though you may be feeling anxious. Help your child to be independent by encouraging them to walk into the centre and settle into an activity. When you are ready to leave, let a staff member know. Say 'goodbye' as a signal for the child to know you are going and will return. Your child will learn to trust this. Call an hour after you have left to check on your child's progress. Please speak to the staff if you are worried or unsure of what to do. |
